For Spring Summer 16 Ong-Oaj Pairam presents a collection filled with optimism. Focusing on attitude and intuitive feelings with individual style taking precedence over the zeitgeist, the designer has imagined a boundary blurring collection perfectly balancing the done and undone, day and night, inward realness and opulent excess all fused together with an inherent sense of freedom and creative whimsicality.

The collection has been inspired by a myriad of references: The Swans, Legends of The Jet Society photography particularly the couture dresses. The decadence of the late 50s and early 60s have been referenced with a nod to the prominent elements of luxury travel and an escapist ideology. Hergé’s Adventures of Tintin is a key source of inspiration in the creation of the Safari jackets and Trench coats. The illustrative style of the character runs through the pattern cutting to create simplified yet exaggerated elegant silhouettes.

Ong-Oaj leads the season with a utilitarian palette of russet, sand, tan and camel punctuated with bold bursts of teal, yellow and orange. His exotic signature prints and jacquards are paired with vibrant embroidery featuring tropical birds, butterflies and flowers fused with plastics and traditional Irish techniques resulting in a beautifully romantic, contemporary look.

Ong-Oaj Pairam cleverly plays with proportion within the collection exaggerating shapes and pairing razor sharp tailoring with fluid draping. The designer has exposed the neck, collar and back in several pieces giving the wearer a seasonally renewed sexiness. For SS16 Ong-Oaj Pairam’s ‘New Look’ is a celebration of the soul, his woman is unapologetic, empowered, in command of her allure, has a renewed confidence and is about to turn heads…
